-Finally, Marc Antony arrived with the rest of Caesar's troops, and Caesar now had about 15,000 troops total.
-Caesar and Pompey finally begin to clash! Light skirmishes, back and forth.
-Finally, they had a major battle at Pharsalus (modern-day Farsala, Greece) in 48 BC!
-Somehow, Caesar won! A combination of unconventional tactics, discipline, and experience.
-Pompey fled to Alexandria, hoping to eventually land in Numidia to raise an army.
-However, when he landed in Egypt, he was killed by Egyptian courtiers hoping to appease Caesar.
-Caesar then pardoned all of Pompey's generals and troops.
-Caesar then went to Egypt to try and find Pompey before he heard the news that he had been killed.
-He was more sad about it than pissed off, apparently.
-Meanwhile, there was a semi-civil war going on there.
-Rule was supposed to have been split between Ptolemy XIII (10 years old) and Cleopatra VII (18 years old).
-However, the court knew they could manipulate Ptolemy since he was young but not Cleopatra, so they ran her out of town and exiled her.
-In response, Cleopatra gained support from the local Egyptian population.
-Caesar was pissed at the Egyptian court for what they had done to Pompey, and began to see the situation as an opportunity that could benefit him (and/or Rome) in the long run.
-Caesar summoned Cleopatra to have an audience with him.
-He was struck by her bravery and charm, so he declared her to be a "co-ruling queen" and started banging her.
-Caesar didn't have a big army in Egypt at the time, so the Egyptian court knew that they had to act fast!
-They manipulated the populace into believing that Caesar was there to take over.
-Caesar's army then were faced with the threat of an urban warfare campaign in Alexandria, but decided to just accept the situation for what it was and began to level blocks at a time (this was to become known as the Siege of Alexandria (47 BC))!
-Ptolemy finally raised an army to crush Caesar, but Caesar's army instead crushed them (the Battle of the Nile (47 BC))!
-Ptolemy allegedly drowned in the Nile after the battle, but the details surrounding this are murky...
-Thus, Cleopatra was reinstalled back on the Egyptian throne and Egypt was now a Roman puppet kingdom.
